Introduction Cancer-related fatigue is one of the most common side effects experienced by patients with cancer (Ahlberg et al 2003, Stone and Minton 2008). It is challenging to manage owing to its multidimensional nature and its potential to persist for long periods (Ream and Richardson 1999). Education is a commonly recommended cancer-related fatigue management strategy (Lowrie 2006), which can be provided by health professionals. Occupational therapists historically have a strong role in providing both health education (Berger 2009) and fatigue management (Cox 2002, Steultjens et al 2003), placing the profession in a position to play a leading role in cancer-related fatigue education. The occupational therapist's role in cancer-related fatigue management has been increasingly well recognised in recent years (National Breast Cancer Centre and National Cancer Control Initiative 2003, Cooper and Littlechild 2004, Vockins 2004, Oertli 2007), but interventions remain poorly described and have a weak evidence base (Lowrie 2006).
